What is your profession? I am a clinical social worker in private practice in Mt. Pleasant specializing in individual, couples, family therapy and groups for women. My specific areas of expertise are in Substance Abuse, Family Systems and Women’s Groups.

What do you enjoy doing outside of your career? I love spending time with my husband and sons whenever I can now that my children are grown. Enjoy being outdoors, running, riding my bicycle and hiking, cooking (though I am a novice so it is more like Chemistry 101 Cooking), reading and, all of the above, when we are at our cabin in N.C.

How long have you been a member of the Center for Women? Fifteen years

What inspired you to become a member? I joined immediately after learning about the Center for Women. It was an organization that provided excellent training, workshops, etc at affordable cost.

What kind of impact has the Center for Women had on you? Every program and workshop has always been a great learning opportunity, inspirational and energizing. Connecting with other women, professionally and socially, provided the support and forum for my moving forward professionally. Jennet Robinson Alterman is an amazing woman, leader and organizer who has provided personal support, guidance and networking suggestions throughout my career. She respects the individual and, at the same time, understands the bigger picture. My work with the Center providing a women’s group reinforced for me my passion for working with women.

How has living day-to-day as a woman affected you?  It has taught me to prioritize and, at the same time, multi task, to bring my heart and values into day to day living and to learn from the past and not sweat the small stuff.

What kind of message would you like to send out to women who are trying to succeed in today’s economy? Never give up or live with regrets. Follow your passions and define success for yourself. Keep remembering it is the process not the outcome that matters in the end.
