2012 in review

December 31, 2012

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 7,800 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 13 years to get that many views.

C4W Business Member Profile: Bedie Kinney, Durlach Associates

December 19, 2012

Bedie Holland

What is your profession? Chief Financial Officer for Durlach Associates.

What do you enjoy doing outside of your career? I love playing with the grandchildren, especially my 4 year old grandson.  I work Sudoku in the evenings to relax (really!).  I enjoy eating out and since I live in the best place on earth, it is easy to find things to do from volunteering to bird watching from my deck.

How long have you been a member of the Center for Women? Since 1997 .

What inspired you to become a member?  I wanted to associate with women in my community, both professionally and socially.

What kind of impact has the Center for Women had on you? In the beginning the Center for Women supported me emotionally in a time of change, as time passed it has been a resource for education, networking, admiring the talents and journeys of other women.

How has living day-to-day as a woman affected you? It is a feeling of empowerment.  I set my mind on my goals and have taken action for what was needed to accomplish those goals.  Even when the goal was not accomplished as soon as I wanted it, I work at it until I complete my mission.

What kind of message would you like to send out to women who are trying to succeed in today’s economy? My advice is to know your strengths, hone your skills, set your course of action, and work it through education, networking, find a mentor, and get involved where you can.  Set a plan to get out of debt.  All of these will empower you to be your own person who wants to raise your family with purpose, help your community, and enjoy the best life you were given.

How can people connect with you?  My email address is bkinney@durlach.com. You will also find me at Center for Women events.

C4W Business Member Profile: Teri B. Lash, Bernstein Lash Marketing

December 12, 2012

What is your profession?  Graphic Design / Sign & Print Broker / Promotional Products Distributor at Bernstein Lash Marketing.

What do you enjoy doing outside of your career?  Love spending time with my husband and family. Looking forward to having my first grandchild in March!

How long have you been a member of the Center for Women?  Just joined.

What inspired you to become a member?  I am a woman-owned minority business. I was lucky to inherit my father’s business.  Not many women have that opportunity. I want to help those that are just starting in business get the marketing materials they need in order to succeed in their business.

What kind of impact has the Center for Women had on you? I am sure I will be inspired to help others even more.

How has living day-to-day as a woman affected you? I have found that more and more women are making decisions, becoming business owners and making a difference in other’s lives.  I have tried to be a mentor for those just staring out.  I have a passion for helping others.

What kind of message would you like to send out to women who are trying to succeed in today’s economy? Follow your dreams…don’t give up!

How can people connect with you?  They can reach me by email (TLash@BernsteinLash.com) or phone (843.747.7767).

C4W Member Profile: Heather Powers

December 5, 2012

What is your profession? Professional Organizer and Designer

What do you enjoy doing outside of your career? Gardening, dancing, walking on the beach, cooking and pretty much anything creative!

How long have you been a member of the Center for Women? I recently moved to Charleston and joined in November!

What inspired you to become a member? I’ve heard from many wonderful women in Charleston that this is the best networking group for women entrepreneurs here!

What kind of impact has the Center for Women had on you? I have just joined so I’m sure in time it will lead me to many amazing women and educational opportunities.

How has living day-to-day as a woman affected you? I embrace the challenges of being a woman in today’s business environment.  There have been times where I felt I had to work harder, smarter and have more creative solutions than my male counterparts!  I know that these challenges have helped me identify opportunities and allowed me to creatively solve problems as they arise.

What kind of message would you like to send out to women who are trying to succeed in today’s economy?  I believe women are natural leaders, creative thinkers and problem solvers.  We need to remember this when we feel we are competing in a male driven business world.  Women have the skills and qualities that can really impact global economic horizons if we embrace the challenges as opportunities.

How can people connect with you? Which ever way feels most comfortable for you!  Feel free to call or email, connect with me on my website or social media!
