How long have you been a member of the Center for Women? January 2011
What inspired you to become a member? We heard it was an excellent and active organization to belong to, and knew a few people who have benefited greatly from being members. We’ve enjoyed our experience so far and can’t wait up and coming events.
What kind of impact has the Center for Women had on you? We have attended numerous brown bag lunches, learned invaluable information about finances, savings, and credit which is important as a young woman in today’s economy. We also thoroughly enjoyed the event regarding relationship advice – being young and not married, relationships always tend to be on our minds.
How has living day-to-day as a woman affected you? Considering we work mostly with men in our environment (hiring engineers for Aerospace and other technical fields), we have had the valuable opportunity to examine and test the nuances between the way women and men work. Most of our employees are very technically minded people and tend to communicate in a way that reflects their chosen career. We have learned to speak clearly and directly, and handle any problems as though they were equations needing to be solved.
What kind of message would you like to send out to women who are trying to succeed in today’s economy? One necessary quality we would like to emphasize in order to be successful is to have passion. If you are passionate in whatever you do, your experiences automatically become more meaningful, and you can learn so much more, so much more quickly. We have all overcome hurdles in our lives that have taught us how to work hard as individuals, as well as in a team. Therefore we are passionate about getting the outcomes we want. We truly care about what we do and the well being of our coworkers, which makes work so much more enjoyable.
